Confidentiality Policy 

This confidentiality policy explains how personal information shared during one-to-one life coaching sessions is treated in accordance with Irish law. It is designed to create a safe, respectful and trusting environment where clients can explore personal goals, challenges and experiences.

Confidential Nature of Sessions

All one-to-one life coaching sessions are treated as strictly confidential. Information shared, whether spoken, written or otherwise communicated during sessions, is not disclosed to any third party without the client’s explicit consent.

Confidentiality applies to:

  • Personal stories, experiences and background information
  • Goals, challenges and areas of focus in sessions
  • Session notes or records kept for professional purposes
  • Any communication between sessions 

Client Consent to Share Information

Information may be shared with another person or professional only when the client provides clear, informed and voluntary consent. This may include, for example, sharing relevant information with a healthcare professional or another support service at the client’s request.

Consent will be discussed and agreed in advance, and only the information necessary for the stated purpose will be shared.

Legal Limitations to Confidentiality (Irish Law)

While confidentiality is a core principle of the sessions, it is not absolute. In accordance with Irish law and ethical practice, confidentiality may be broken in situations where there is a serious and immediate concern for safety.

Information may be disclosed without consent if:

  • There is a clear and credible threat to the life or serious harm of the client
  • There is a clear and credible threat to the life or serious harm of another person

In such circumstances, appropriate steps may be taken to contact relevant services or authorities in order to protect life and safety. Wherever possible and appropriate, the client will be informed about any such disclosure.

Record Keeping and Data Protection

Any notes or records kept from sessions are stored securely and used solely for professional coaching purposes. Records are retained only for as long as necessary and are handled in line with applicable data protection principles under Irish and EU law.

Respect, Trust and Professional Boundaries

This confidentiality policy aims to  support a professional, respectful and non-judgemental session environment. The aim is to foster trust so that clients can speak openly, explore personal development and work towards meaningful change within clear and transparent boundaries.
